Education will take place within government guidelines. We’ll do everything we can to make sure you can get the best out of your studies.
For the new academic year, we are assuming that teaching activities on the campus will be possible without restrictions.
Our starting point is that in academic year 2021-2022 we will be able to offer all teaching activities on campus without restrictions. All students (including international ones) are therefore expected to return to Amsterdam in academic year 2021-2022. It goes without saying that the teaching activities will depend on the coronavirus developments. As a result, the rules regarding physical presence may still change for 2021-2022. We will notify you of this in good time. However, the premise is that things will go back to normal.
Timetables and schedules are currently being drawn up. We want to return to the campus, to face-to-face teaching and meeting up with each other. This is why we have now decided to assume that ‘regular’ in-person attendance will be possible in academic year 2021-2022.
The UvA has four campuses located across Amsterdam. Some classes are in quaint old buildings overlooking the canals, others in high-tech laboratories. Take a digital stroll through our campuses in preparation for when we can start up education on campus again.

Intreeweek is the official introduction week of the University of Amsterdam. Get to know Amsterdam, the UvA, and most importantly your fellow students through our Intreeweek platform. More information is available on the Intreeweek website.
Want to know what education in the second semester looks like for your programme? The regular scheduled education will be offered online in the second semester of academic year 2020-2021. If degree programme departments see opportunities for providing on-campus teaching activities they will do so. Keep an eye on the information on your programme’s website for the latest update.
(Information is currently being updated to include the upcoming academic year.)

We provide full education. If the then applicable corona measures allow it, you will follow the education on our campus. If the measures are stricter again at that time, education will continue online. Practicals do take place on campus.
At this moment (June-2021), higher education is expected to open in the academic year 2021-2022. This is based on a maximum of 75 people per lecture. Because of this maximum, it has been decided that all lectures of the Faculty of Science programs in block 1 (up to and including date) of the new academic year will be given online.
In this way we comply with the principle of equality (all students have the same access to education). For students who have a tutorial immediately following a lecture, it is made possible to follow the online lecture in a lecture room on campus so that they do not run into problems with travel time.
Whether you follow online or physical education: we do everything we can to ensure that you get the best out of your studies.
Students are further informed by the study programme. Keep an eye on the Canvas page of your study programme.
