Application and admission

After the Office of International Student Affairs (BIS) at the UvA receives the nomination from the partner university, we will send you a link to fill in our online application form and upload all your supporting documentation.


Nomination period and deadline for partner universities

We are currently working hard to get our new mobility management system up and running for the Fall 2021 and Full Year 2021-2022 nominations. Our partner universities have received instructions, and can nominate students in the online nomination portal during the nomination period, running from 16 March until 6 April 2021. If we are unable to have the new portal in place by that date, we will ask your home universities to nominate students through the current procedure using the nomination form plus scanned transcripts, and returning it to our office by email before 6 April 2021. We will keep our partners up to date of our progress in the coming weeks. Late nominations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application deadline for students

Students should fill in and upload all the requested materials in the online application portal, as displayed below in Instructions on how to apply.

Nomination period and deadline (for host university)             

First semester and full year students:

  • 16 March - 6 April 2021

Second semester students:

  • 15 August - 15 September

Application period and deadline

First semester and full year students:

  • 20 April - 23 May

Second semester students:

  • 1 September - 1 October

Notification of acceptance

The acceptance letter will be sent directly to the student's email address and home university coordinator approximately four to six weeks after the UvA application deadline.

First semester and full year students

  • Nomination - 6 April
  • Application - 23 May
  • Acceptance - 20 May to 1 June

Second semester applicants

  • Nomination - 15 September
  • Application - 1 October
  • Acceptance - 1 to 15 November 

Instructions on how to apply

Please read this before you apply.

Step 1: Nomination by your home university

  • Your home university must have nominated you for exchange to the University of Amsterdam.
  • Your application file will not be reviewed if we do not receive nomination details from your home university.

Step 2: Fill out the application including the required documents through our online portal

During the application period, you will receive an invitation from the UvA for the online application portal. In this portal you can enter all your information, and upload all required documents. For an overview of the required documents, please refer to our fact sheet.

Step 3: Submit before the deadline, and wait for the application outcome

In case we have any questions about your application during this time, we will contact you or the exchange coordinator of your home university.

Step 4: Notification of acceptance

  • The acceptance letter will be sent directly to the student's email address, approximately four to six weeks after the UvA application deadline.
  • Further instructions about the application procedure will be emailed to you afterwards.
